Sartorius Introduces the Dyxim X-Ray Inspection Systems for the Food Industry

—The bar is now being set higher in terms of reliability and safety in the food processing industry. Manufacturers are striving to meet these higher standards required by government regulations and consumers alike. Sartorius is pleased to introduce the Dyxim series of X-ray inspection systems that can accurately detect contaminated products and discharges them safely before they can become a problem in the finished manufactured goods. These inspections are carried out automatically and are documented so that data can be provided for the statistical evaluation of the control process.

The main focus of the Dyxim X-ray system is on the control points at which products can be checked for contaminants. There are many reasons why contaminants may get into the production process. In every case, they pose a risk to the end user and therefore an incalculable risk for the manufacturing company.

The advantages of X-Ray Inspections Systems
The key advantage of x-ray inspection systems compared to say metal detectors is that a more diverse range of contaminations can be discovered. These contaminants include ceramics, high density plastics and the detection of cavities and rips in products.

In addition, it's possible to detect metal contaminations even in metal containers, metallic foils or in containers with metal closures. Other items that can be detected include bones with high calcium content glass and stones. Even products with a high product effect (such as a high salt and/or moisture content), which influences the sensitivity of conventional metal detectors, poses no problems for the Dyxim X-ray inspection systems.

Other Uses of X-Ray Inspections Systems
The Sartorius Dyxim X-ray Inspection Systems not only detect contaminants, they also perform other important functions such as:

  • Monitoring of form, volume and dimensions
  • Fill level monitoring
  • Completeness checks
  • Weight monitoring
  • Cracks within products

All Sartorius Dyxim systems are operated simply and intuitively via a 15" LCD color monitor with touch screen controls. The devices are easy to clean and maintain, thanks to their stainless steel housing (optional IP65 protection is available). All Dyxim units work automatically within the production line. There is no need for special operating personnel or extensive operator training.

The Sartorius Dyxim X-ray inspection systems are available in the following configurations:

  • Dyxim FB flat-bed scanner series is used to inspect products in cartons, plastic bags, metallized film and loose goods. Belt speeds of up to 70 m/min and a detector resolution of 0.4-0.8 mm ensure rapid, high precision detection of contaminants. Dyxim FB series are available, depending on product-specific characteristics and individual customer requirements.
  • The Dyxim S single series is particularly suitable for detecting contaminants in foods and beverages packaged upright containers or in jars, metal cans and bottles. The Dyxim S series is designed for particularly tall containers and uses a single X-ray sensor.
  • The Dyxim D series comprises a patented core of two X-ray sensors, installed at right angles to each other. The Dyxim D series is particularly suitable for glass-in-glass applications. Contaminants located directly under the lid, in curved areas or on the sides of a container can be detected with the Dyxim D double scanner X-ray inspection system.
